F.R.O.G.S

Thursday 1st September
The FROGS met for another 9 holes this morning, so it was time for another challenge for the Ladies from me. This time it was the best stableford scores on the 1st, 3rd, 6th and 9th and excludes the overall winner.
Well done to to Ruth for winning the challenge and also to Jenny for a great 24 on the front 9.

It was nice to see Annie back in action this morning, practicing on the driving range. Look forward to seeing you back in action, hopefully for the County Shield final in October.

Thursday 18th August - Annie Swings into the 70's with a birthday game of Golf
Jenny, Annie, Viv, Susan and Janet
Hard to believe but she's hit the big Seven 0 and by all accounts has been celebrating for a few weeks. If you check out the FROGS tab, you'll see just how popular everyThursday morning is, mainly due to the efforts by the lovely Annie and her super sidekicks Lesley, Lynne and GlenA great turnout, with a total of 23 Ladies playing today from 10am onwards.
5 teams comprising of 3 x 3 balls and 2 x 4 balls and not a marshall in sight.....
Pictures to follow of the rest of the teams but here's Jenny, Annie, Viv, Susan and Jane

Me, Joan, Annie, Margaret and Pam
To the left, last out is the self appointed Dream Team.  (some might say...not) Left to right is my playing parters Gentle Joan, Annie, Marvellous Margaret and to the right, the one and only Putting Princess, Pam!!!!! Great company, plenty of laughter and fun, a day I'll remember for a long time plus (what goes on tour stays on tour....)
So we joined Annie for a celebration game of golf followed by a meal and what a great day it was for everyone.

1st Team Prize to Glen, Ruth and Di winning with 90 points.
2nd Team Prize also with 90 points and pipped to the post by the better back 9 was the Dream Team

Some more pictures taken might find their way onto the blog in the next few days but in the meantime ........

thank you Annie from everyone for sharing your birthday celebrations with us

 and finally..........PLEASE NOTE

Annie has been the Clubs sweetheart for many years and many have claimed to be her Number One Fan

She is oblivious to just how loved she is, so much so, that the Club Bouncers often have to fend off the many admirers who just want their picture taken with her.

This one somehow got through the inner cordon dressed as a greenkeeper.

(Please notify reception immediately if you recognise this man)

Update: A case of mistaken identiy, the man is harmless

Thursday 23rd June
Margaret, Lynn and Ruth
A lovely sunny day with little chance of rain. and successful turnout, with 20 Ladies today. I was drawn with Margaret, Lynn and Ruth and we had a great couple of hours. Ruth hit some monster shots with her drive, the 5th tee shot was way passed the bunkers, the 6th also passed the bunkers. Some great putting by Margaret who came in 2nd overall with 17 points, just a point behind Glen W.

Thursday 9th June
A great turnout today with a total of 20 ladies, filling all 5 tee times allocated. I went out second with Cherry, Jo and Joan, this was Jo's first time with FROGS and hopefully will see her many times in the future.  Memorable shot of the game was Jo's tee shot on the 8th, it cleared the fairway by a good few yards followed by another 2 fairway shots to take her to well passed the path and ready to go over the ditch for her 4th shot. Excellent for a new 36 handicapper........

Todays comp over the front 9 was full Stableford but for the first time, a little challenge for all the Ladies from me. I asked Annie and Lynn to choose 1 envelope from 3 before we all played, each contained a card with a maximum of four different holes. None of the ladies knew which of the holes were on the card in the envelope, they just knew there was an additional prize for the best score over 4 of the holes in addition to the full stableford prize.

Winner overall was Sue S who came in with another 20 points and also won the challenge.
Next challenge is in a 4 weeks time, slightly different but just as fun however this time, the Ladies will know what it is before they go out!!!

Thursday 2nd June
FROGS Bonding Session

Another fine, hot, sunny day at Branston with a great turnout of 16 ladies. Format was full stableford for the front 9 holes, my 3 ball included Karen, Sue and Pauline. A great score by Sue, 20 points on the front 9 but beaten into 3rd on the better back 6. Congratulations to Jane G, Division 2 Winner for the Ladies Monthly Medal on Sunday 29th May and welcome to Karen, only her 2nd time on the 18 hole course.
Karen, Pauline, Me and Sue

Brian was off to play at Breadshall Priory in a friendly so I decided to stay at the club and practice my chipping again (mainly to stay in the sun and top up the tan!!) After an hour or so of chipping and putting, I realised that all that practice with the 9 iron was starting to pay dividends and finally the slicing and topping was no more. However the putting still needs some work....

I was hoping for some-one to take pity on me and ask me to join them for at least another 9 holes but to no avail. So after waiting patiently for the invite that never came, I swiftly flagged down the next good looking car and lo and behold, Adam M's peaceful afternoon was about to be swiftly terminated.

After practicing my Foxy Bunker shots for several weeks now (see previous blog entry) I felt much more comfortable taking the sand with the ball however I wanted to do more than just get the ball out of a bunker onto the green. A quick lesson with Adam on the 12th and another little tip from him, seemed to give the shot more accuracy. Imagine a bank note underneath the ball, lengthwise, facing the direction of the flag and then bring the club underneath the note, lifting the ball up at the same time.
Worked every time............watch this space, it feels so controlled as it only needs half a swing rather than a full swing back.
Thanks Adam and congratulations on beating 126 players to win the Iberostar Open during your recent holiday to Gran Canaria.

THURSDAY 27TH JANUARY
Another enjoyable 9 holes starting with coffee and a chat around 0900 this morning.
The format today was 'The Waltz'
Each team of 3 (or 4) played Stableford scoring as follows:
Best score on the 1st, best 2 scores on the 2nd, best 3 scores on the 3rd,
      then again.
Best score on the 4th, best 2 scores on the 5th, best 3 scores on the 6th
Best score on the 7th, best 2 scores on the 8th, best 3 scores on the 9th
Stilll on temporary greens so some good scores but still no cigar!!! We bombed on the 8th and 9th. My partners today were Joan and Annie. Joan hits every single ball straight as they can go and Annie as usual was a joy to play with.

FROGS Tribute to soon to be Lady Past It, Sandra H
Friday 4th Feb is the Lady Capains Dinner with much joy and merriment planned, to enable all the Lady Golfers to celebrate Sandras last year as Lady Captain. In true style, FROGS have been practicing their party piece, which promises to be a send off like has never been seen or rather heard before. So glad I can be part of it!!! We had a few run throughs and I cant wait till the night
FROGS - Where it all began
The wonderful Annie C had taken up her post as Lady Vice Captina in 1999 when there were fewer ladies than now at Branston Golf Club.  FROGS kicked off in the year 2000 and was aimed to encourage ladies to progress with their golf without the pressure of playing 18 holes. I have to say that I'm so pleased that this is also open to any lady golfer who fancy a coffe, chat and 9 holes on a Thursday morning, because I enjoy the chat and company as much as I enjoy the golf

THURSDAY 20TH JANUARY
My first FROGS outing was only a couple of weeks ago and hosted brilliantly by Annie C and ably assisted by Glen W, Lynne C and Lesley T.

FROGS stands for Friendly Round of Golf and starts with coffee / chat and just 9 rather than 18, more on FROGS soon and how / when they were established) When Brian (hubby) first tried to instill in me the joys of playing golf some years ago, he brought home a set of second had clubs which belonged to Mitzi. I still have those clubs and this was the first time we had actually played together! Probably around 20 ladies played today, a really good turnout, some there I had never met before as they are 5 day members but hopefully will catch up with them soon.

The first T Time is usually around 10am followed by another coffee, but it was a shame I had to leave as Annie was masterminding the entertainment for the Lady Captains Dinner...can't say too much but it should be a hoot.

Played with Penny and Mitzi, very crisp, dry morning with lots of sunshine.
Had an early tee time as a lunch date with the fabulous 4 from Tuesday morning, Dave and Christine, Frank and Maureen, Rob and Jackie. Had a lovely meal as usual at the Winery.
Christine was Lady Captain at Branstone around 15 years ago, so much for me to learn from her.

THURSDAY 6TH JANUARY
Viv, Me, Maureen and Sue

My first game with the FROGS
Met Sue S, Maureen and Viv and had a lovely 9 holes. Lucky Maureen lives abroad and plays off 32, Viv and Sue off 36. Sue has just upgraded her membership to 7 days and hopefully will be playing in many of the club competitions at the weekend.
