I asked Jules for an update on Maisie..............and this is what he sent with a photo of the investigation The Chairlady and founding member of the Branston Golf and Country Club Freefall Display Team suffered a horrendous accident whilst attempting the newly formed sport of Kerb Diving, in which she suffered a fractured elbow. This is a similar sport to the dangerous pastime of “Tombstoning”, where members of the public jump off piers, which can result in serious injury and death.
Police were called to the scene as it was thought that foul play from the radical left-wing group “Ban Kerb Diving” may have been a contributory factor, a Police spokesperson stated that the scene was carefully examined (see photo), and no other persons were believed to have been involved. Masie, being the brave little soldier that she is, thought better of just not turning up for her golf match and having to endure the ignominy of getting “a letter”, and arrived in time, the pain we believe by this time was unbearable and after a few words and passing over of tissues to dry streaming eyes (not of laughter I may hasten to add), Masie was rushed to the Queens Hospital for emergency treatment. It may be a good time to interject that she was taken to hospital by Kim Tierney, Vice Lady Captain (think I have the words in the correct order!), who rushed her in the “Kimbulance”, a vehicle designed and adapted for such emergencies by Kim herself. Our normal ambulances have such items as oxygen and defibrillators etc. on board whereas this specially adapted vehicle has a selection of alcoholic drinks, wines and spirits (soft drinks for those that can’t handle it), all of which are accompanied by a fine selection of crisps and nibbles to make your journey one to remember. Kim stayed with Masie until the last possible minute (not literally, as I brought her home, it was just till they had finished the crossword!), in a statement to the press later, Masie said:
“It was all my own fault, I hadn’t taken into account that there was no wind on the morning of the jump, which caused my chute to open late and I’ve learnt from my experiences, I will be back once recovered to attempt it again, hopefully a bit more successfully this time, it also means that all I can do is be the caddy for the time being.”
And Finally from Jules..................
In all seriousness, a big thankyou to all people involved, from me (you all know who you are), it was great to know we have so many friends out there. The biggest disappointment was the fact that Masie couldn’t participate in the “Rose & Thorns”, which she was really looking forward to. In the end she caddied for me, and helped both Tom Kirkpatrick (who, may I add, played like a demon and can have his handicap dropped now!), and yours truly, with comments like: -
Ø Did you want to hit it in the bushes?
Ø If you didn’t want to hit it in the bushes, why did you do it then?
Ø You shouldn’t have missed that little putt.
Ø Slow your swing down, it’s too fast.
Ø Your trolley keeps pulling to the right, mine doesn’t.
Ø I’ve cut through the cable on the hedge trimmers (that went down well).
+ many more comments to confirm the fact that you know you should have done something different rather than play golf!!

BURT - 5th MAY - 10th Hole in One
Guess who was on the patio waiting eagerly for anyone to arrive so he could buy the drinks. Not too many but enough to help him polish off a bottle of Grouse.
(By the way, Burt asked me to mention that if you were not there on that wonderful occasion, then please remind him the next time he sees you and he will buy you a drink
Hole 10 - The Spinney
A tee shot through a tight gap in the trees and over a pond. The raised green is large and slopes from back to front. Bunkers on the right and back left at further protection
Stroke Index 11 off the yellow, 170 yards
FIRST MATCH BETWEEN 2 WARRING SIDES, BURTS MEN AND TONY'S TWO'S

| Chill Phil, Mighty Mick, Alex and Me |
The Two's - men of all shapes and sizes, who play for mega money, off a minimum of 18 and have barred women from joining.
Burts Band of Merry Men- any age, any handicap (also any shape and size) and dont mind women joining unless they pass the Bumometre Test (ask Burt to explain, he's in charge....)
After a 15 hour night shift with no sleep, and armed with couple of cans of Red Bull, this was Daggers at Dawn. My wonderful partner Alex B, chatted most of the way round to keep me awake (although I sometimes felt like falling asleep) but we kept our beady eyes on our foes, the mighty hitter in the shape of Mick M and Chill Phil. Even stevens all the way round alas it was not to be and Alex and I have since been thoroughly chastised by Burt and have accepted my punishment for losing us the match....

| Squids Invitation Day |
Saturday 21st May - Squids Invitation Day
'Squids' are the newest members to Branston, many fine Gents and a few lovely Ladies that have joined the club from elsewhere.
Today was the Squids Invitation Day, very well supported by approx 28 members (men only) from Branston and their ex club. What a fine bunch they were. Calm, collective, quiet, unassuming and as asset to our club. Long may they stay and a wonderful trophy to win if only by design.
